Access Control
Different Types of Access Control Systems
Guidance only. Verify any statutory or insurer requirement against current official South African sources. CapeCore does not publish unverified legal claims.
Credentials are the heart of the system
Access control is a decision: this person, this door, this time. The credential can be a card, a fob, a PIN, a fingerprint or face template, a phone, or a remote. The lock, the reader and the controller have to agree, and someone has to be able to add or remove users without calling an installer every week.
Standalone vs networked
A single keypad on a storeroom can be standalone. A building with twenty doors, a gate and an office lift needs a networked controller, software and a backup of the user database. Do not scale a standalone keypad by buying twenty of them.
Match traffic to the reader
High-flow staff doors want a fast tap. A server room may justify biometrics. A visitor lobby needs an intercom or a receptionist process, not a fingerprint reader on the street. Gates need long-range tags or a loop and remote, not the same reader as an office door.
CapeCore installs mixed systems
RFID, keypads, biometrics, maglocks, strikes, turnstiles, intercoms and gate access are specified from commercial hardware. See also access control services.
