Choosing a Gate Motor or a Boom Barrier

Guidance only. Verify any statutory or insurer requirement against current official South African sources. CapeCore does not publish unverified legal claims.

A boom manages vehicles

Boom barriers are fast, clear and familiar at parks, clinics and staff lots. They do not stop a person walking around the arm. If theft or after-hours intrusion is the problem, you still need a gate, a fence or a turnstile.

A gate secures the opening

A sliding or swing gate closes the width of the entrance. It is slower, heavier and needs a better civil base. It is the right tool when the boundary must actually shut.

Using both

A common industrial pattern is a sliding gate after hours and a boom for daytime truck control, or a boom on the visitor lane and a tagged gate for staff. CCTV and a guard hut only help if the lane geometry is honest.

CapeCore will recommend one job, not two slogans

Tell us the threat, the traffic and the pedestrian path. We will specify a boom, a motorised gate, or both — with safety devices included.
