Sliding vs Swing Gate Motors: Choosing the Right Automation
Guidance only. Verify any statutory or insurer requirement against current official South African sources. CapeCore does not publish unverified legal claims.
Sliding gates
A sliding leaf needs a level run, a sound track, and space beside the opening. Motors are specified to gate mass and how many cycles a day the entrance will see. Dirt in the track is the usual service call. A slope or a dipped driveway can make a sliding gate bind.
Swing gates
Swing motors (ram or underground) need space for the leaf to open. Wind load on a solid sheeted gate is real in Cape south-easters. Hinges must carry the leaf; the motor is not a hinge. Uneven leaves need two motors or a redesigned gate.
Duty cycle
A home used twice a day is not an estate entrance used by two hundred cars. Undersized motors overheat and fail. Tell the installer the traffic, not only the width.
CapeCore assesses the leaf first
We look at wheels, hinges, stops and power at the post before quoting a kit. Hardware comes from commercial ranges that can be serviced locally.
