Sectional vs Roller Garage Doors
Guidance only. Verify any statutory or insurer requirement against current official South African sources. CapeCore does not publish unverified legal claims.
Sectional doors
Horizontal panels run up and back under the ceiling on tracks. They need headroom and rear run. They sit well on a standard double garage, seal reasonably, and take an overhead motor. Dented panels can often be replaced individually.
Roller doors
A curtain rolls onto a drum above the opening. They suit openings with little ceiling run, workshops and some commercial bays. Side room and a sound lintel matter. A damaged slat can mark the whole curtain if it is left.
Motors are not interchangeable
Overhead rail motors, jackshafts and side motors each fit a door type. Copying a neighbour’s remote brand onto a different door is how installations fail.
Choose for the opening you have
CapeCore measures the reveal, the ceiling and how vehicles sit on the apron before recommending sectional or roller.
