Automating an Existing Garage Door

Guidance only. Verify any statutory or insurer requirement against current official South African sources. CapeCore does not publish unverified legal claims.

The door has to be ready

A motor multiplies whatever the door already does. If it sticks, drops a side, or needs a body-slam, automate nothing until the tracks, springs or slats are repaired. Springs on sectional doors are a specialist item; do not adjust them as a DIY experiment.

Mounting

Overhead motors need a sound ceiling or lintel fixing. Roller motors need a drum and brackets that can take the torque. A crumbling reveal is a building job before it is an automation job.

Remotes and buttons

Plan who gets a remote, where the wall button sits, and whether an external keypad is needed for pedestrians. Safety beams are part of the automation, not a later extra.

CapeCore will say no if the door is finished

We would rather quote a new door than hang a motor on a failed curtain. That is cheaper than two call-outs.
