Remote Viewing of CCTV from a Phone or Laptop

Remote view is a feature, not the system

The cameras still record locally. The app lets you look in, receive alerts, and sometimes play back clips. If the fibre line drops, recording should continue on site. Design for that, instead of streaming everything only to a cloud you do not control.

How the connection is made

Typical setups use the manufacturer’s P2P/QR code, a VPN, or a port-forwarded connection. P2P is convenient; a VPN is usually cleaner for a business LAN. Opening random ports to the internet is a poor default. Strong unique passwords and two-step verification, where the brand offers it, are not optional extras.

Bandwidth and alerts

Live 4K streams on four cameras will hurt a small fibre line. Sub-streams for the phone and motion alerts with a snapshot are more usable. Constant false alerts from trees and headlights train people to ignore the app.

CapeCore enables what you will use

We set up remote viewing when the client wants it, with documented logins. We do not leave default passwords on recorders. Call 021 755 1648 if an existing system no longer connects after a router change.
