Mobile Credentials and Bluetooth Access Control

Guidance only. Verify any statutory or insurer requirement against current official South African sources. CapeCore does not publish unverified legal claims.

Phones as credentials

Some systems let a Bluetooth or NFC phone unlock a reader. That reduces plastic cards and helps visitors who receive a time-limited pass. It depends on a charged phone, an app that people will install, and a reader that supports the format.

What still goes wrong

Dead batteries, OS updates, people without smartphones, and contractors who should not install your app. Keep a physical card or PIN path. Do not make the only fire exit depend on a phone OS.

Visitor passes

A time-boxed mobile pass for a courier or a consultant is useful if the receptionist can issue it in seconds. If issuing takes ten minutes, people will prop the door.

Specify the reader family

CapeCore uses mobile credentials where the chosen hardware supports them cleanly. We will not bolt a consumer smart-lock onto a commercial fire door and call it access control.
