A gate is a door with a motor

The credential must talk to the motor controller: remote, long-range tag, keypad, GSM module or a reader on a gooseneck. If the motor and the access panel are different brands that never meet, someone will wire a dirty relay and the safety edges will be bypassed. Do not do that.

Residents vs visitors

Residents need a fast, weatherproof method. Visitors need an intercom or a guard. Loop detectors should not open the gate for every taxi on the public road; place them on the private apron.

Safety stays in the circuit

Photocells, edges and auto-reverse must remain active when you add access control. A card reader is not a reason to defeat safety.
