Specify cameras as part of a coordinated security design. Electrical supply and earthing must be sound. Where the system shares a gate or fence, SANS 10222-3 (electric fences) and SANS 10222-2 (access control) sit on the same brief. POPIA still governs who you record and how long you keep footage.

How many cameras does a house need?
Enough to see the approaches people actually use, not a number from a brochure. Four well-placed cameras beat twelve that look at walls.
Do I need night vision?
You need a usable night picture. That is lighting plus the camera, not a marketing label. Test the driveway at 21:00, not at noon.
Can I use only wireless cameras?
You can, but Wi-Fi cameras fail when the internet or power fails unless you plan recording and backup power. A recorder on a protected circuit is more reliable for evidence.
