What Is the Difference Between CCTV and IP Surveillance?
Guidance only. Verify any statutory or insurer requirement against current official South African sources. CapeCore does not publish unverified legal claims.
People still say “CCTV” for almost any camera system. Strictly, closed-circuit television described analogue cameras feeding a local recorder. IP surveillance uses network cameras that send digital video over a LAN or similar network to a recorder or server.
For most new commercial and residential work, IP systems are the practical choice: resolution, remote viewing and cable layouts are more flexible. Analogue or hybrid systems still exist on older sites and can be migrated in stages.
The better question is not the label. It is coverage, lighting, retention, who watches the pictures, and whether the hardware is supportable.
