Backup Power for Gate Motors and Garage Doors

Guidance only. Verify any statutory or insurer requirement against current official South African sources. CapeCore does not publish unverified legal claims.

Motors need power at the worst time

Load-shedding often hits when you want the gate closed. Many gate motors accept a battery pack sized for a number of cycles, not for days of standby with accessories drawing current. Count remotes, intercoms and maglocks on the same supply.

Garage doors

Some garage motors have a battery backup; many do not. A labelled manual release is still required. An inverter on a shared circuit can brown-out a motor; use a supply the installer has checked.

Solar is trickle, not magic

A small panel can keep a gate battery topped up on a remote farm gate. It will not run a heavy industrial slider every minute of a busy shift without a proper design.

Safe wiring

CapeCore specifies backup that matches the motor. We do not recommend jumper cables on a car battery as a lifestyle solution.
